What is a Plasma TV?

Plasma TV is a flat, lightweight surface covered with millions of tiny glass bubbles. Each bubble contains a gas-like substance, the plasma, and has a phosphor coating. Think of the bubbles as the pixels.

Each pixel-bubble has three sub-pixels - one red, one green, one blue. To display an image signal (RGB or video), a digitally controlled electric current flows through the flat screen, causing the plasma inside designated bubbles to give off ultraviolet rays. This light in turn causes the phosphor coatings to glow the appropriate color making your Plasma TV provide the best video image anywhere. Millions of RGB bubbles glowing and dimming to make a rich, vivid image.

What is LCD TV Technology?

Liquid Crystal Display is a technology that has been around for a number of years but is finally able to deliver fast motion video quality flat panel displays. The thin and light form factor is attractive to consumers. While the panel (the set itself) looks thin, the technology inside is quite extensive.

An LCD monitor is made up of pixels. Pixels are individual, distinct, points of light. Each pixel is made up of sub pixels consisting of red, green and blue. Together the red, green and blue sub pixels combine to form a single color picture element. A panel's resolution is determined in part by how many pixels there are. A display can have hundreds of thousands of points of light (pixels) to millions of points of light, depending on the resolution.
